Academic Departments: Fine Arts


The Department of Art at New Mexico State University provides a rigorous program for the enrichment, application, development, and appreciation of the visual arts. Students in studio develop an individual aesthetic by experimenting with and expressing visual concepts in an articulate manner.

Art history students acquire a comprehensive understanding of the aesthetic and cultural issues addressed within the history of art. Specialization areas within the department include: art history, ceramics, drawing, graphic design, metalsmithing & jewelry, painting, photography, printmaking, and sculpture.

Creative Media Institute

New Mexico State University's Creative Media Institute (CMI) offers the Bachelor of Creative Media degree. CMI is a dynamic cross-disciplinary program that prepares students for the 21st century in Digital Filmmaking and Animation & Visual Effects.


The New Mexico State University Department of Music serves the music educational needs of New Mexico's diverse population through comprehensive programs of education, research/performance, and public service.
