'Java Love' Music, Art, and Creative Writing students present an interdisciplinary evening of art, poetry, song, and opera @ Atkinson Recital Hall Music Center

NMSU Opera Workshop presents Java Love

Music, Art, and Creative Writing students present an interdisciplinary

evening of art, poetry, song and opera.

Featured is “Grant and Grace,” an opera in one act by Music Department Head, Dr. Lon W. Chaffin.  The performance will place the opera in the context of a coffee house “open-mic” night of poetry and song, performed by vocal and creative writing students, that will both introduce and lead into the opera, about a young man (the barista) attempting to write a love poem.  The show is directed by Ron Gillis (Visiting Assistant Professor of Voice) and Dr. Sarah Daughtrey (Voice Area Coordinator), and assisted by Dr. Lily Hoang, Director of the Creative Writing Program.  Prior to the performance, the evening will begin with a “coffee house” for audience members (free coffee and treats) with a display of student artwork (coordinated by Michelle Lanteri, interim NMSU Art Gallery Director) in the lobby outside Atkinson Recital Hall.

“Java Love” will be presented on Tuesday, April 4 at 7:30 p.m. in Atkinson Recital Hall in the Music Center on the NMSU Campus.  “Java Love” will also be presented on Wednesday, April 5 at 3:30 p.m., but without the pre-show coffee house.  The performances are free and open to the public.
