Arts and Sciences restricts the number of credits allowed toward graduation in applied course work to 9 credits. Several types of courses fall into this category. Applied art, music, dance, and theatre courses are those in which you are painting, drawing, singing, playing an instrument, acting, directing, or doing other activities. Occupational courses taught through the Dona Ana Branch Community College (or other two-year schools) and nursing courses are applied. Study skills courses such as UNIV 110, Personal Learning Skills, also fall into this category. If you take more than 9 credits of these courses, in any combination, except to fulfill major or minor requirements, you will need to take extra credits to graduate.
Arts and Sciences also restricts the number of credits in physical education activity courses to 9 credits. If you take more than 9 credits of PE, you will have to take extra credits to graduate. A list of specific courses that fall into this category is available at the Dean’s Office.
