Jarod Gonzalez is an Academic Advisor in the Advising Center in the College of Arts and Sciences. He has been an Academic Advisor at New Mexico State University since June 2013. Prior to joining NMSU, he worked as an advisor at UT-Austin for a program that assisted first generation and/or low-income students. Jarod received his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology in 2009 and Master of Education in Educational Psychology in 2011 from the University of Texas at Austin. He primarily advises freshman in the following majors: Criminal Justice, English, History, Sociology, and students interested in the Creative Media Institute (Animation and Visual Effects/Digital Film Making transfer advisor). He is also the contact person for departments in the College of Arts and Sciences to make changes to “Degree Maps”. Lastly, he supervises the Advising Center Student Specialists who assist students in the reception and lab areas. He enjoys Basketball, poker, writing, poetry, sports, weightlifting, philosophy, and promoting social justice.
