GRADUATE STUDENT TRAVEL GRANT APPLICATION FORM

The College of Arts and Sciences will provide competitive travel awards for graduate students to attend conferences, meetings, or workshops. Awards may range from $500 to $1,000. It is important to note that this award may not necessarily cover a student's complete expenses. Students may apply for additional support from the Graduate Student Council, the Graduate School, ASNMSU, or their departments.

In their applications, graduate students should discuss:

  • The name, date, and importance of conference
  • How the student will benefit from attendance
  • The nature of the student's presentation and whether the student was invited to present, exhibit or perform at the meeting.

All College of Arts and Sciences graduate students are eligible including graduate students who wish to attend international meetings.

In terms of criteria, students:

  • MUST provide documentation showing that her/his work or performance has been accepted for presentation.
  • MUST use fund only for travel-related expenses, not for the preparation of presentation or performances. Conference registration is a permissible expense.
  • MUST submit a basic budget in the application clearly estimating and discussing travel expenses.
Other important things to consider:
The student's department head or advisor must send an email to jbrown@nmsu.edu acknowledging awareness that the student will be presenting /performing at a conference workshop or meeting . Heads may state whether the department is also giving funds for travel . A match or contribution is not required.

Preference may be given to students who have not received the award in the past two years.

Spring 2013 applications should be submitted to the College of Arts and Sciences Research Center in electronic PDF format at jbrown@nmsu.edu by February 4, 2013. The college's Graduate Affairs Committee will review applications and select award winners. Awards may be used through September 2013 provided that the student remains a graduate student in good standing in the College of Arts and Sciences through the semester of the conference, workshop or meeting.

Student must present documentation about their conference presentation and all receipts within 5 days of the conference to Ms. Lucille Casas in 138 Breland Hall. She may be contacted at lucasas@nmsu.edu or 646-7486.
