Dr. Christa Slaton Dean

Dr. Christa Slaton is Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at New Mexico State University. She received her B.S. in Psychology from University of Tennessee-Nashville and her M.A. and Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Hawaii-Manoa. Prior to her arrival at NMSU in 2010, she served as Associate Dean of Educational Affairs and Graduate Studies in the College of Liberal Arts at Auburn University.

Dr. Slaton, whose research concentrates on the methods and means to expand democracy, is the author of three books and over twenty book chapters and articles. Her most recent publications have focused on building trust and transparency in government. She has been the recipient of research, teaching, and outreach awards, including the 2009 National Association of Secretaries of State Medallion for Outstanding Service; 2007 Auburn University Award for Excellence in Faculty Outreach; 2007 American Association of University Professors Academic Freedom Award; Inductee in Auburn University College of Liberal Arts Academy of Outstanding Teachers; and1999 Best Book Award, Ecological and Transformational Section of American Political Science Association. Dr. Slaton has been invited to present her research and conduct workshops throughout the United States, Europe, New Zealand, and the Philippines.
