Elbert Walker

It is with great sadness that we announce that Emeritus Professor, Elbert Walker has passed away. A memorial service will be held at the NMS Spiritual Center Thursday, Feb. 15 at 11 am.
Elbert was a big influence in the growth of Mathematical Sciences in the 1960s. He is survived by his wife Carol who was Head of Mathematical Sciences 1979-1993 and Associate Dean of Research, 1993-1996. Science Hall room 107 was named in Elbert and Carol’s honor, and they created the Walker Endowed Fund for Mathematical Research at NMSU. Elbert was a recipient of the Westhafer research award in 1965. He served at NSF for three years after retiring in 1987.
