Astronomy Department to host open house Friday

The NMSU Astronomy Department will host a monthly open house at the Tombaugh Campus Observatory starting at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1. Visitors will be treated to view the planet Saturn and two planetary nebulae, M27 and NGC 7293. As time permits, we may also have a look at the globular cluster M15, as well as the moon.

There will also be a public talk 30 minutes prior to telescope viewing and a short presentation on current astronomical findings in the Biology Annex, Room 102. Everyone is welcome to attend. Admission is free, and children are especially welcome to attend.

The event will be hosted by faculty member Kristian Finlator and graduate assistants Julie Imig, Oana Vesa and Bryson Stemock.

The NMSU campus observatories are located at 3415 Williams Ave. Contact the NMSU Astronomy Department at 575-646-4438 with questions.
