NMSU Department of Music presents ‘An Evening of Brazilian Piano Music with Justin Badgerow @ Atkinson Recital Hall

|The NMSU Department of Music presents a Guest Artist Recital of piano music from Brazil, featuring Dr. Justin Badgerow, Associate Professor of Music at Elizabethtown College in Pennsylvania. The concert will feature works from Badgerow’s forthcoming album, “Reminiscences of Brazil” on the Divine Art Recording Group label, including familiar works such as Villa-Lobos’ grand suite, “Bachianas Brasileiras” No. 4 for solo piano as well as his “Ciclo Brasileiro.” Also included are Darius Milhaud’s “Saudades do Brazil,” or Memories of Brazil, featuring “portraits” of different locations he visited as a diplomat in Brazil in the late 1910’s. Featured also are the lush harmonies of Francisco Mignone’s “Seis Prelúdios” and his dynamic dance piece, “Congada” as well as works by M. Camargo Guarnieri, and contemporary Brazilian composer Paulo Gondim.
Dr. Badgerow received the DMA from the University of Colorado at Boulder, a Masters in Piano Performance from UT Austin and a BM from the University of Central Florida. His primary teachers include Gary Wolf, Nancy Garrett, and Andrew Coooperstock with additional coaching by Robert Spillman and Anne Epperson. Dr. Badgerow has performed with artists such as Eddie Daniels, Patrick Mason, and Harvey Pittel and has performed as a soloist and collaborative pianist around the country as well as in Brazil, South Africa, and Mexico.
