NMSU Department of Music presents ‘Music from South America for Voice, Piano @ Cello @ Atkinson Recital Hall

The NMSU Department of Music presents a Faculty and Guest Artist Recital of music from South America, featuring Voice Area Coordinator Sarah Daughtrey, Assistant Professor of Cello Jorge Espinoza and guest pianist Justin Badgerow (Elizabethtown College in Pennsylvania), along with Fred Bugbee, Professor of Percussion.  The concert will feature the voice, cello, piano and percussion, joining forces in multiple combinations in works from Argentina, Peru, Brazil, Venezuela, Colombia, Paraguay, Uruguay and Chile.   Among the more familiar works by Villa-Lobos (Pequena Suite for piano and cello) and Piazzolla (Le Grand Tango), are rarely heard songs by female Venezuelan composer Modesta Bor and the Chilean modernist Juan Orrego-Salas, as well as the beautiful “Modinha” for cello and piano by Francisco Mignone, from Brazil.  Also included are works by Léon, Malpica, Flores and Broqua.

There will be a pre-recital talk concerning Latin American modernism by Dr. Rodrigo Figueroa Obregón, who specializes in Hispanic Literature and culture, from the Department of Languages and Linguistics.
