The College of Arts and Sciences is the largest college at NMSU, the state’s land grant university in the southern part of the Land of Enchantment. Programs offered in the College of Arts and Sciences prepare students for a variety of career opportunities and for graduate study. The college is home to 21 academic departments and 2 ROTC programs.

Undergraduate Students
The College of Arts and Sciences offers over 65 undergraduate degree options! NMSU’s undergraduate degree programs can lead you to new opportunities and a challenging and rewarding academic experience. An education from NMSU means you will graduate prepared to lead by experience.
The undergraduate degree programs offered by the College of Arts & Sciences are categorized by the “outline of knowledge” (i.e. “Propaedia” by Encyclopedia Britannica) that each degree program is placed within as defined by our College. If you consider yourself to be an ambitious student willing to learn and communicate in a variety of different academic courses, then aspire to earn a dual degree or minor (as listed within our guide) in our departments’ programs. Some departments offer both “Bachelor of Art” (BA) degree programs as well as “Bachelor of Science” (BS) degree programs. BA degrees are optimized for students that are dual-majoring in other academic disciplines, and BS degrees are mainly taught to students that are expected to primarily fulfill the technical and scientific aspects of their academic disciplines.

Graduate Students
At The College of Arts and Sciences, we welcome the most ambitious and brightest students from around the world to learn (and to possibly, teach) in our college! The graduate programs of NMSU’s College of Arts and Sciences are made up of many students continuing their education beyond the baccalaureate level. We offer a wide variety of programs for students pursuing masters and doctorate degrees in their fields of study. The accomplishments of our college and university have been nationally and internationally recognized through a variety of different sources: the National Science Foundation, Forbes Magazine, the Carnegie Foundation, and the U.S. News and World Report.
