New Mexico State University and the College of Arts and Sciences offers a wide assortment of different programs to help you with your educational expenses as a graduate student. Assistantships
Graduate Assistantships (GA) are positions that universities offer to graduate students that not only pays them stipends to fund their educational expenses, but they also give graduate students practical “on the job” experience working in their fields of study. Graduate assistantships may involve graduate students assisting professors with their stratagems of classroom pedagogy, graduate students may teach the classes themselves, or graduate students may assist a department with academic research to broaden their fields of study. Fellowships
Fellowships are similar to scholarships. However, scholarships pay off school tuition whereas fellowships not only pay for tuition through stipends, but they also contain a living allowance for graduate students. If fellowships suit your interest, NMSU and the College of Arts and Sciences does offer such awards to best suit your funding needs.

Federal Financial Aid
NMSU’s Office of Financial Aid provides undergraduate and graduate students resources they need to fund their education. NMHED Graduate Scholarship Programs
The New Mexico Department of Higher Education (NMHED) has a program that awards graduate students with assistantships and fellowships. Such programs pays annual stipends of $7,200. This program is designed for students that face ethnic, racial, and gender under-representation within their post graduate schools. NMHED awards are usually given to first year graduate students that have been officially enrolled in their department’s graduate programs.

TEACH Grant
The TEACH Grant is a federal grant that not only assists students with paying for their education, but it also allows students to give back to communities in need. In order to receive the TEACH Grant, students must complete an obligatory requirement to teach in areas that have been economically deprived after graduation. The TEACH Grant is awarded to graduate and undergraduate students with an award amount of $2,000 per semester and/or $4,000 annually.

Western Regional Graduate Program
The Western Regional Graduate Program (WRGP) allows master’s, graduate certificate, and Ph.D. students who are residents of the WICHE member states to enroll in some 450 high-quality programs at 61 participating institutions outside of their home state and pay resident tuition.

College of A&S Graduate Student Travel Grant
If you are a graduate student that needs assistance in paying for expenses that involves travelling for authorized academic and professional purposes, the College of A&S Graduate Student Travel Grant may help alleviate some (but not all) of the costs related to travel. The Travel Grant pays up to $500 for graduate students to attend conferences, meetings, workshops, and shipping costs for transport of originally created pieces to exhibitions, with award selection preference for applicants who are presenting their original creations, outcomes, etc. at their destination..
